Graffitis in Latin America

Using graffiti as a form of non-verbal communication, these countries have in common that all the artists seek to express the situations that affect the country where they live.

In Colombia the graffiti express situations which are not pleasant for the society since they cause him harm and no benefit from it. Tom feling comments on various graffiti, one of them is La Macarena in Bogota, where highlights those days of street violence; Another is a mural XIX which shows corruption and hand hard from the police, among others.

In Buenos Aires the graffiti express two messages, several of them expressed purely art while others express the problems of the society. For example: Roxana Perez a resident of this country says that graffiti are nice, show the style of the artist and give life to the city. Matt Fox Tucker shows visitors the graffiti, among them is a baby which means exploitation and human corruption.

In Honduras the graffiti express Tegucigalpa is one of the cities most deadly in the world. Then the urban master takes his cans of paint to show to others about the situation that occurs in the country. This country presents 87 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, considered an epidemic of violence by the World Health Organization. Master protects his identity because their work is illegal and dangerous. However there are other graffiti, a mix of international works: "Mona Lisa", "Leonardo Da Vinci" and "American Gothic" to capture the attention of pedestrians.

In Brazil the graffiti express urban art. Never and the twins are among the most famous practitioners of the art in the streets of Brazil. Schacter is the author of a book that talks about the graffiti, where Vitche (artist) says that his art was influenced by the destruction of nature before but now she was influenced by the political climate and corruption in Brazil.

  1. I think that you are right, the grafitti in argentina has an artistic sense that other country's artists don't have. And that is possible because Argentina has liberal policys and mentality. In argentina a Grafitti artist is well- seen while in other countries they are seen as vandals. Also, they are more liberal in other aspects. For example, a person with tatoos can fin easily a job, while in Colombia a person with tatoos is discriminated by the organizations. I think that argentina is a good example of a progresist country that believes in the diversity, and in the different artistic expressions.

  2. Im agree with you in the part where Argentina show very artistic ways, but I am in disagreement with you in the part where it shows corruption, because even though is an artistic way doesn't mean that is corruption, as says matt fox.
